Hello Windows Insiders, We’re excited to release the first build of the Windows 11 Insider Preview to the Dev Channel! You’ll be able to try out many, but not all, of the new features we showed off last week in this early preview. We’ll be bringing more features like Chat with Microsoft Teams and Android apps to the Microsoft Store in the coming months as they’re ready for you—we’re just starting this journey together!
WSR is being deprecated
Changes and Improvements – – [General] Windows 11 is moving from Windows Speech Recognition (WSR) to Voice Sign In. When you open WSR, you’ll see a dialog directing you to try Voice Sign In, and they’ve also added a banner in Settings > Ease of Access > Speech like They’ll. Voice Sign In, our new assistive technology in Windows 11, uses on-device speech recognition to let you control your PC and create text without an internet connection.
WSR users are encouraged to try and get started with Voice Access today
Will support more languages and custom commands in a future update (these features are now available for Windows Insiders to try in the Beta Channel as noted above). Dialog that directs you to try out Voice Access when opening Windows Speech Recognition. – [Nearby Sharing] We are introducing the ability to quickly give your device a more descriptive name to identify sharing to and from Nearby Share in Settings > System > Nearby Share.
For example, “speak faster,” “read the next line,” etc
Give your device a more descriptive name to identify sharing to and from Nearby Share. – [Narrator] Narrator users can now use Voice Access to open applications, dictate text, and interact with items on the screen using their voice. Narrator users can use Voice Access to give Narrator commands using their voice.
To get started, search for “voice access” in Windows search and set it up
Fixes – – [Task Manager] When creating a dump file for a process, the dump file location should now be selectable, so you can copy it. – [Desktop] Made some improvements to fix an issue where the wallpaper could jump when switching between desktops.
