Chronology
A generational story about families and the special place they inhabit, about love, loss, laughter and sharing life… Based on the comic book "Here" by Richard McGuire. It first appeared as a strip in the comic book magazine "Raw" in 1989 and was expanded into a 300-page comic book in 2014. At one point in the film, Richard’s father names several towns that he claims are along the Pennsylvania Turnpike, when in fact they are all along Interstate 80.

Performed by Artie Shaw and his band, courtesy of RCA Records, under arrangement with Sony Music Entertainment. ‘Here’ is the fifth film directed by Robert Zemeckis and starring Tom Hanks, and while it’s not a 2.5-hour, three-decade epic like ‘Forrest Gump’, it still somehow spans 65 million years. This film is shot using a stationary camera trick, focusing on the living room of an early 19th century house (presumably in New Jersey, USA), which includes a few flashes of things in that place. We then follow ~5 families at different times and their lives in the living room.
The editing is sometimes good, but often unnecessarily annoying
It’s not all linear, but it’s not too confusing, as the main story follows Al (Bettany) and Rose (Reilly) buying the house after World War II. There they raise their 4 children, Richard (Hanks) is played by an aging/Big-era Hanks around 16. He then meets the aging Margaret (Wright) and we follow them as they age in the house over the decades. There are some nice moments, some funny and some sad scenes, although this is a relatively short film, it probably didn’t need at least 2 of these stories.

It tries to show the small moments of life that add up to create the human experience. It gets close, but because of the jumping around, you don’t get too attached to anyone, so the cheekiness is lost.
